Grammarly sells three plans on its own site and a fourth in the app stores. I read Grammarly's pricing pages, Superhuman's plan pages and Grammarly's help center on 30 October 2026, all in their US versions. As of October 2026, Free costs $0 and includes 100 AI prompts a month, Pro costs $30 a member a month, $60 a quarter or $144 a year, and Enterprise is priced by quote. Premium is still sold, but only through the App Store and Google Play.
The number on Grammarly's pages is $12. That is Pro's monthly price on yearly billing, paid as $144 on day one. Pay month to month and Pro costs $30.
So the useful question is how long you need Pro. My arithmetic on Grammarly's three prices says monthly billing is cheapest for one month, quarterly for two to six months, and yearly from the seventh month on.
Grammarly pricing in five lines (October 2026)
- Pro costs $30 a member a month, $60 a quarter or $144 a year on Grammarly's US pages, read 30 October 2026; Free costs $0 and Enterprise is sold by quote.
- Free stops at 100 AI prompts a month, and full-sentence rewrites and tone adjustment both need Pro.
- The "$12 a month" is the yearly plan: $144 up front, renewing at $144 unless you cancel.
- Pick the billing period by how long you need Pro: monthly for one month, quarterly for two to six, yearly from seven (my arithmetic).
- Students and several other groups get 50% off Pro once through SheerID, and Superhuman Pro includes Grammarly Pro only on yearly billing.
How I read Grammarly's prices
On 30 October 2026 I read grammarly.com/plans and grammarly.com/pro, Superhuman's two plan pages, and the articles in Grammarly's help center on billing, trials, discounts, seats and refunds. Every figure here comes from the US version of those pages, in dollars. Open the same pages from India and you get rupees and a regional plan, and Grammarly also prices in euros and pounds for some regions. I opened no account and started no trial, so I saw no checkout, tax line or renewal screen.
Grammarly renamed its company Superhuman on 29 October 2025, putting Grammarly, Coda and Superhuman Mail under one brand. Grammarly is still the writing product and still runs its own plans page, and Superhuman's suite is a second way to buy it.
Grammarly plans at a glance
Every plan, per member, in US dollars as of 30 October 2026. Pro is the only paid plan with a price on Grammarly's site.
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed quarterly | Billed yearly (per month) | AI prompts | Seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 a month | One person | ||
| Pro | $30 a member | $60 a member | $144 a member ($12) | 2,000 a member a month | 1 to 149 |
| Enterprise | "Contact Sales": priced by quote | Unlimited | Unlimited members | ||
| Premium (App Store and Google Play only) | Not shown on any page I read | 1,000 a month | Individuals only | ||
Grammarly's plans and Pro pages and its help article "How much does Grammarly Pro cost?", US prices, read 30 October 2026. The quarterly price appears only in the help center. The Premium row comes from Grammarly's help center; the US App Store listing rendered no in-app prices.
The Pro page opens on Yearly, and $30 sits in small type under the $12. Its badge says "Save up to 60%", and the arithmetic backs it up: $144 for a year against twelve monthly bills totaling $360 saves $216, which is 60% (my arithmetic).

Is Grammarly free? Yes, and here is where Free stops
Yes. Grammarly Free costs $0 as of October 2026, and its card promises one thing: "Write without spelling and grammar mistakes." The compare grid on Grammarly's plans page, read 30 October 2026, gives Free four rows:
- Spelling and grammar checks.
- Tone detection, which Grammarly calls "See your writing tone".
- 100 AI prompts a month for generating text.
- The help center.
Everything else on the grid is marked unavailable on Free. These are the rows a single writer will notice first:
- Tone adjustment. Free shows your tone; changing it takes Pro.
- Full-sentence rewrites.
- Three style rows: writing fluently in English, using inclusive language and keeping citations consistent.
- Plagiarism and AI-text checks, which Grammarly lists as "Catch accidental plagiarism" and "Detect AI generated text".
- Priority support. Free users get the help center.
For emails and short documents, Free does the core job. The ceiling arrives once you start clicking "Improve it".
Every click on a suggested rewrite counts as one of your 100 prompts.
Grammarly counts more than typed requests. Its help center says: "Each time you enter something in the prompt field or use a provided suggestion like 'Improve it,' you use one of your allocated generative AI prompts." Click "Improve it" ten times a day and Free is spent in ten days.
The count refills monthly, on a date set by "the day generative AI assistance first became available within your account", so your reset day is your own. No Grammarly page I read sells extra prompts, and paid users who run out early are told to "contact us for assistance".
Grammarly Pro: one plan, three ways to pay
Pro is the paid plan Grammarly sells on the web, to individuals and teams alike. The help center notes: "Grammarly Pro replaces the Grammarly Business plan." Over Free, Pro adds:
- Rewrites and tone control. Full sentences rewritten with a click, and your tone adjusted on request.
- 2,000 AI prompts a member a month, twenty times Free's allowance.
- Plagiarism and AI-text checks.
- Team tools for up to 149 seats. Each plan gets one style guide, one brand tone and two user groups; Enterprise gets unlimited style guides and brand tones.
- Superhuman Go. "Every Grammarly Pro subscription comes with Superhuman Go built in."
- Priority support.
Two conditions apply before you buy. You need a Grammarly Free account to upgrade, and Pro is currently closed to anyone who bought Premium through the App Store or Google Play, as well as to Grammarly Business and Grammarly for Education customers.

On yearly billing, the $12 a month is $144 paid on day one.
The Pro card reads "$12 USD / member / month, billed annually", and Grammarly collects the whole year at once: "Grammarly Pro plans are billed as one payment for all seats." One person pays $144 at the start of the year, and three people pay $432 in one charge (my arithmetic, October 2026 prices). Unless you cancel, the plan renews for another year at the standard rate, and Grammarly charges the same $144 again.
Quarterly billing is the cheapest way to buy two to six months of Pro.
Grammarly's help center prints a price that neither pricing card shows: "Quarterly subscription: $60 USD/member/three months". That works out to $20 a month, a figure none of the Grammarly pages I read prints. Here is what one seat costs for the months you actually need, at October 2026 prices:
| Months you need Pro | Monthly billing | Quarterly billing | Yearly billing | Cheapest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $30 | $60 | $144 | Monthly |
| 2 | $60 | $60 | $144 | Tie: monthly or quarterly |
| 3 | $90 | $60 | $144 | Quarterly |
| 4 | $120 | $120 | $144 | Tie: monthly or quarterly |
| 5 | $150 | $120 | $144 | Quarterly |
| 6 | $180 | $120 | $144 | Quarterly |
| 7 | $210 | $180 | $144 | Yearly |
| 12 | $360 | $240 | $144 | Yearly |
My arithmetic on Grammarly's three Pro prices for one seat, US dollars, read 30 October 2026. It assumes you cancel before the next renewal; cancelling stops the renewal and keeps paid features to the end of the period.
Monthly for one month. Quarterly for two to six. Yearly from seven. Yearly overtakes monthly in the fifth month ($144 against $150), yet in months five and six quarterly ($120) still beats both. I did not reach a checkout, so look for the quarterly option when you upgrade.
The free trial: $0 today, and the card is silent on what comes next
On 30 October 2026, grammarly.com/plans opened under the heading "Try Pro for $0 today". The Pro card showed "$12" struck through, a "Try for free" badge, the line "Email reminder 2 days before trial ends." and "$0 payment today" above a "Try for $0.00" button.
Grammarly's help center: "We do periodically offer free trials of Grammarly Pro for individual subscribers and teams." Its billing help mentions a "seven-day free trial of a paid plan", so the fair summary is that Grammarly offers seven-day Pro trials from time to time, and its plans page showed one when I read it.

Now the gap. The card prints no trial length and no billing period. Nothing on it says whether the trial becomes a monthly, quarterly or yearly plan, and I did not reach the checkout. Read that screen closely before you confirm.
Grammarly's help center covers the rest of the trial:
- A pending charge during the trial "is most likely a verification charge". It is removed if you cancel and replaced by the actual charge if you keep the plan.
- To avoid paying, cancel before the trial ends.
- Cancelling ends the trial at once and converts the account to Free "without any charges", and your data is kept.
- Grammarly Business subscriptions bought by invoice come with no free trial.
The card promises a reminder email two days before the trial ends. Decide before it lands.
Teams and Enterprise: per seat up to 149, then a quote
Grammarly has no separate team plan below Enterprise. A team buys Pro by the seat, from 1 to 149 people, at the same $30 a month, $60 a quarter or $144 a year per seat as of October 2026, billed as one payment for all seats. The help center sets the rules that move a team bill:
- Adding seats costs a prorated amount "based on the remaining days in the current subscription period", then the full price at renewal.
- Removing seats takes effect "in the next billing cycle", and Grammarly says "we do not automatically issue a refund when a member is removed from a team plan". You can ask for one through a support form.
- True-up billing lets you invite people beyond your paid seats and pay later. On Pro it starts "with the third seat", with reminders 30 days and two days before the charge; remove extra seats at least 24 hours before it to avoid paying for them.
- Invoices are open to 10 or more members on a yearly plan, paid by bank transfer, major cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay. PayPal cannot pay them.
- There is no family plan. Family members join a Pro plan as ordinary seats at the same rates.
No page I read on 30 October 2026 prints an Enterprise price. Pro stops at 149 seats, so bigger organizations land here, as does any team that needs controls Pro lacks: SAML SSO, SCIM, data loss prevention, BYOK encryption, confidential mode or an audit logs API. Enterprise also makes AI prompts and members unlimited and adds dedicated support.
Schools and universities buy through Grammarly's education sales team, also by quote. Individual students and teachers have their own route, covered in the discounts section.
Grammarly Premium survives in the app stores
Premium is still on sale as of October 2026, in exactly two places. Grammarly's help center, edited 8 September 2026, says the "Grammarly Premium plan remains available through the App Store and Google Play." It is built for individuals, with 1,000 AI prompts a month and no team features or admin controls.
I could not read its price. The US App Store listing showed "Free ยท In-App Purchases" with no price list, and I did not read Google Play, so this post prints no Premium price.
On the web, Grammarly has been moving Premium subscribers to Pro since March 2025; "Your billing amount will remain the same," and there is currently no opt-out. Switching to Pro yourself cancels Premium "and you will receive a refund prorated to the remainder of your subscription". App Store and Google Play subscribers keep Premium and need do nothing.
Pro doubles Premium's AI prompts, to 2,000 a month, and adds team features. One line on Grammarly's own Pro page has not caught up: its FAQ still says Premium users will move to Pro "throughout the remainder of 2025".
Grammarly inside Superhuman: the same $144, but only on yearly billing
Superhuman Pro is a second way to pay for Grammarly Pro. As of 30 October 2026 it costs $12 a member a month billed yearly, which is $144 a year by my arithmetic, and that yearly plan includes Grammarly Pro. On monthly billing it costs $15 and leaves Grammarly Pro out. The Superhuman suite's help article puts it this way: "With the monthly plan, Grammarly Pro is available as an optional add-on for an additional $15 USD / month."
Both routes cost what Grammarly Pro alone costs: $144 a year, or $15 plus the $15 add-on, which makes $30 a month. Superhuman Business, at $33 a member a month billed yearly or $40 monthly, includes Grammarly and adds Superhuman Mail.
No Superhuman card shows a quarterly price, Superhuman says "We don't currently offer discounts or free trials for the Superhuman suite", and its grid describes Grammarly's AI allowance as "Limited prompts", "More prompts" and "Most prompts" with no numbers.

Already paying for Grammarly? Check with Grammarly support before you buy the suite. One Superhuman billing article says Grammarly Pro customers can get the suite by signing in at superhuman.com, and also that "the Superhuman suite is not yet available to existing customers". Another offers no way "to consolidate existing subscriptions into the Superhuman suite". Ask first, or you may pay twice. Mail, Docs and everything else Superhuman charges are in my Superhuman pricing explainer.
Discounts: half off Pro, once, for students and several other groups
Grammarly's main discount, as of October 2026, is 50% off Pro through SheerID. Students and graduate students are the headline group, and Grammarly's help center also names K-12 and university educators, young adults, military members, first responders, healthcare workers and seniors. The terms are tight:
- It runs "for a limited time", and no Grammarly page or SheerID form I read gives an end date.
- It covers one subscription period, after which the plan renews "at a standard rate".
- First seat only, and it does not combine with other offers.
- App Store and Google Play purchases are excluded, as are plans already bought.
- Verification "can take up to seven business days", so apply well before the term starts.
Skip the coupon sites. Grammarly says it "does not provide discounts in the form of coupons or other codes", and "If you found a promo code online, it is not a promotional offer from Grammarly." Beyond SheerID, its discounts article mentions only occasional promotional offers to some of its email subscribers.
Nonprofits have one route on record. On 30 October 2026, TechSoup, a third-party donation program, listed a "30 percent discount on the Pro plan for Grammarly's AI-powered editing platform for one year". TechSoup prints no base price on that line, so I will not compute one. I keep a separate list of AI tools with nonprofit pricing.
A student on yearly billing pays $72 in year one and $144 in year two.
Grammarly's help article on SheerID offers says students can "save up to $72 (50% off)", which is half the $144 yearly price. Here is what that means in each billing period, by my arithmetic on October 2026 prices:
- Yearly: $72 for year one, then $144 at renewal, or $216 over two years.
- Quarterly: $30 for the first quarter, then $60 a quarter.
- Monthly: $15 for the first month, then $30 a month after that.
The yearly plan is where half off is worth the most in dollars. Put the renewal date in your calendar the day you buy, because year two arrives at full price. I cover the other student AI discounts on their own page.
Three Grammarly bills, worked out
Three buyers, priced on Grammarly's US list as of 30 October 2026. Every figure is my arithmetic, before any tax.
- A student verified through SheerID. $216 over two years on yearly billing, as worked out above.
- A freelancer who needs Pro for a five-month contract. Monthly billing comes to $150. Yearly is $144 and leaves seven paid months you will not use. Two quarters cost $120, so quarterly wins by $24, as long as you cancel before the third quarter renews.
- A five-person team. Yearly billing is $720 a year, quarterly $1,200 and monthly $1,800. Superhuman Business for the same five people is $1,980 a year on yearly billing, $1,260 more than Grammarly Pro yearly, and it adds Superhuman Mail.
For the team, yearly billing means one $720 payment up front, and any seat removed mid-year leaves at the next billing cycle with no automatic refund.
What the sticker price leaves out
The cards show a per-member price. Grammarly's help center, read 30 October 2026, fills in the rest:
- Renewal is automatic, for the same length as your first term and "at the standard rate". A discounted first period renews at full price.
- Refunds are the exception. Grammarly's policy is that "refunds are issued only if required by law". Two switches earn a prorated refund, web Premium to Pro and an individual plan replaced by a team plan on the same email, and a payment made in error can be sent in for review.
- Bought in the App Store? Grammarly says to contact Apple for a refund.
- Tax may be added based on your billing address.
- Promo prices apply to the first seat; every other seat pays the standard rate.
- For Superhuman users, cancelling through the Grammarly account cancels every app in the Superhuman suite.
If Grammarly charged you $144, a yearly plan most likely renewed.
Yearly Pro renews automatically for another year unless you cancel before the term ends, and as of October 2026 the standard yearly price is $144. A student or promotional first year renews at that full price too. To stop the next renewal:
- Sign in at grammarly.com and go to Account, then Your account, then Subscription.
- Choose Cancel Subscription, then Continue, pick a reason and confirm.
- On a phone, do the same at account.grammarly.com. If you subscribed through the App Store, cancel through Apple instead.
You keep every paid feature until the period you paid for ends. Billed again after cancelling? Grammarly's help center says the usual cause is a second account, and suggests searching your inboxes for "Grammarly" or "Superhuman" to find it. Getting the $144 back falls under the refund policy above.
What the same money buys at LanguageTool and ProWritingAid
I read two rivals' pricing pages on 30 October 2026, the same day as Grammarly's.
| Tool | Plan | Billed monthly | Billed quarterly | Billed yearly (per month) | Free tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grammarly | Pro | $30 | $60 | $144 ($12) | Free, 100 AI prompts a month |
| LanguageTool | Premium | $24.90 | $49.90 ($16.63 a month) | $69.90 ($5.83) | Basic |
| ProWritingAid | Premium | $30 | No quarterly option | $120 ($10) | Free |
| ProWritingAid | Premium Pro | $36 | No quarterly option | $144 ($12) | Free |
Each vendor's own pricing page, except Grammarly's $60 quarterly and $144 yearly prices, which come from its help article "How much does Grammarly Pro cost?"; one person, US dollars, read 30 October 2026. The per-month figures in brackets are the vendors' own. LanguageTool also sells two years for $119.80.
LanguageTool's yearly Premium, at $69.90, costs less than half of Grammarly Pro's $144 (my arithmetic). Its card offers "Unlimited sentence paraphrasing powered by A.I." and checks of "Up to 150,000 characters per text field". ProWritingAid is aimed at fiction and long-form writers, and its Premium Pro plan on yearly billing costs exactly what Grammarly Pro does, $144 (my observation). Its refund window is short: a "3-day money back guarantee" on yearly plans, and "Refunds are not possible for monthly paid plans."
I pick no winner here. Features decide that, and my AI writing assistant comparison covers them, QuillBot included.
Which Grammarly plan should you pick?
Start with how long you need Pro, then count the people who need it. US prices as of October 2026:
- You mostly fix emails and short documents: Free, until 100 prompts a month runs short.
- You need Pro for one semester or one contract: quarterly, at $60 a quarter, with the renewal you do not need cancelled in advance.
- You write every day, all year: yearly, $144.
- You are a student or an educator: verify with SheerID before you pay anything. Yearly at half off is $72.
- Your team is under 150 people and wants one style guide: Pro per seat, on yearly billing once the headcount has settled.
- You also want a new email app: price Superhuman Business, at $33 a member a month billed yearly, against Grammarly Pro plus the mail you already pay for.
- You mainly want AI to write first drafts: compare general AI plans in my guide to which AI subscription is worth paying for, or start with my ChatGPT pricing breakdown.
If most of what you write each week is cold outreach, part of the job is not editing at all. Gravity, my company, is in public beta: you type the job and an agent someone built runs it. The Lead gen agent in Gravity's catalog in October 2026 finds companies that would buy what you sell and the right person at each, drafts a first email in two versions, and later drafts replies and follow-ups. It sends only what you approve. It does not check grammar, rewrite your documents or connect to Grammarly, so it sits next to Grammarly, not in its place. Your first 3 agent runs are free; the Free plan costs $0 with no card, and Mini Pilot is $15 a month. Explore agents
If outreach is most of your writing, I compare AI tools for finding and writing to leads in a separate guide.

Yes, Grammarly has a free plan that costs $0, checks spelling and grammar, shows your tone and includes 100 AI prompts a month. Full-sentence rewrites, tone adjustment, fluency suggestions, plagiarism checks and AI-text detection all need Pro, which costs $30 a month or $144 a year as of October 2026.
3. Is Grammarly $12 a month or a year?

Most likely a yearly Pro plan renewed at its standard price of $144, as of October 2026. Grammarly renews plans automatically for the same length unless you cancel before the term ends, and a discounted first year renews at the standard rate. If you cancelled and were still charged, Grammarly's help center points to a second account.
6. Does Grammarly have a free trial?
Grammarly offers seven-day Pro trials from time to time, and its plans page showed one on 30 October 2026 with '$0 payment today' on the Pro card. Cancel before the trial ends and your account drops to Free with no charge.
7. Is there a Grammarly student discount?
Yes, students get 50% off Grammarly Pro through SheerID for a limited time, for one subscription period and the first seat, which saves up to $72 on yearly billing as of October 2026. Educators, military members, first responders, healthcare workers, seniors and young adults qualify too, but App Store and Google Play purchases do not. Grammarly says it does not issue coupon codes.
8. How do I cancel Grammarly, and can I get a refund?
Sign in, go to Account, then Your account, then Subscription, and choose Cancel Subscription; on a phone, use account.grammarly.com. You keep paid features to the end of the period you paid for. Grammarly says refunds are issued only if required by law, apart from a few named exceptions, and App Store refunds go through Apple.
9. What is the difference between Grammarly Premium and Pro?
Premium is the app-store plan for individuals, with 1,000 AI prompts a month and no team features. Pro is the web plan for 1 to 149 people, with 2,000 prompts a member a month and team tools. Grammarly has been moving web Premium subscribers to Pro since March 2025 at the same bill.
10. How much does Grammarly cost for a team or business?
Teams buy Pro per member, up to 149 seats, at $30 a month, $60 a quarter or $144 a year per seat as of October 2026. Larger organizations, or teams that need SSO and data loss prevention, go to Enterprise, which is priced by quote. Teams of 10 or more on a yearly plan can ask for an invoice.
11. Does Superhuman Pro include Grammarly Pro?
On yearly billing it does: Superhuman Pro costs $12 a member a month billed yearly, or $144 a year, with Grammarly Pro included, as of October 2026. On monthly billing Superhuman Pro costs $15 without it, and Grammarly Pro is a $15 add-on.
12. Is there a cheaper alternative to Grammarly?
As of 30 October 2026, LanguageTool Premium costs $69.90 a year or $24.90 a month, and ProWritingAid Premium costs $120 a year or $30 a month, with Premium Pro at $144 or $36. All three editors, Grammarly included, have a free tier, so try each on your own writing before you pay.
