As of 13 October 2026, OpenAI's US price list for ChatGPT reads Free $0, Go $8, Plus $20 and Pro at $100, $200 or $500 a month. Business is $25 a seat billed monthly or $20 a seat billed yearly, with a two-seat minimum, and Enterprise is a custom quote.
The list is the easy part. Around it sit a Pro plan that is now three tiers, a Premium Business seat at $125 a month (as of October 2026) that is priced in a help article and has no card on the pricing page, and a Pro card that says "Unlimited" with a footnote attached. Two independent guides ranking for this search on 12 October 2026 still showed Pro as two tiers.
I read every plan card, the compare table, three plan pages and five OpenAI help and docs pages on 13 October 2026, after a first pass the day before. Every price below is the US list in US dollars. Every quote is OpenAI's wording. Where OpenAI publishes no number, I say so and leave the gap empty.
ChatGPT pricing in six lines, as of October 2026
- Four individual prices: Free $0, Go $8, Plus $20 and Pro from $100 a month on OpenAI's US price list, read 13 October 2026.
- Pro is three tiers: $100, $200 and $500 a month. Only the $500 tier includes Ultrafast, and every Pro tier is billed monthly.
- Business is per seat: $25 a seat billed monthly or $20 billed yearly, two seats minimum. Premium seats cost $125 or $100, according to OpenAI's Business help article.
- No annual plan for individuals: OpenAI's FAQ lists annual plans for Business and Enterprise only, so a year of Plus is simply $240.
- Ads stop at Plus: OpenAI says ads may appear on Free and Go, and not on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu.
- "Unlimited" has limits: OpenAI says a Pro subscription "does not include unlimited use of the GPT-6 Pro model".
How I read the prices
OpenAI's pricing page does not carry its prices as text. The page loads, asks OpenAI's own price feed for the visitor's country, and fills the numbers into the cards. Load it from India and the cards come back in a different currency. Load it as an American visitor and you get dollars.
So I read the US list, the one OpenAI's price feed serves to American visitors, in two loads on 13 October 2026. Then I checked it against learn.chatgpt.com/docs/pricing, where OpenAI prints the same prices as plain dollar text, and against four help articles: Pro tiers, the Business overview, the models article and the ads article. Every price in them agreed. The only thing that changed between loads was the one-line tagline under each plan name. The numbers held.
Two layout details trip people up. The Individual tab has no monthly or annual switch, and OpenAI sells Go, Plus and Pro monthly only. The Business tab hides things the other way: the big $20 on the card is the annual-billing price per seat as of October 2026, and the $25 monthly price sits in a footnote. Nobody reads footnotes. On this page they carry a lot of the price list.

Prices are set per country. Everything on this page is OpenAI's US list in US dollars as of October 2026. OpenAI's own Business article gives its dollar seat prices "For most countries", so if your checkout shows a different currency or a different number, the checkout wins.
ChatGPT plans at a glance
Nine rows, six plans, US dollars as of October 2026. The usage column uses OpenAI's own words, because OpenAI publishes no message counts for chat on any tier. The "Best for" column is my read.
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed yearly | Best for | Usage (quoted text is OpenAI's) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | n/a | Trying ChatGPT, a few questions a week | Unlimited text chats "subject to abuse guardrails"; "Limited" uploads, images, voice, deep research and Codex |
| Go | $8 | Not offered | Daily chat on a budget, with ads | "More" messages with tools, uploads, image creation and voice; "Longer memory" |
| Plus | $20 | Not offered | Work that needs reasoning models, deep research or Codex | "Expanded" messages, uploads, deep research and Codex usage; "Limits apply" |
| Pro 100 | $100 | Not offered | All-day research or coding | "Unlimited subject to abuse guardrails", but "GPT-6 Pro has usage limits"; no five-hour limit on Codex and ChatGPT Work |
| Pro 200 | $200 | Not offered | Heavier all-day use | "more usage than Pro 100"; new subscriptions get "a lower usage allowance" |
| Pro 500 | $500 | Not offered | Anyone who needs Ultrafast | "the highest included usage of the three plans"; Ultrafast included |
| Business, Standard seat | $25 a seat | $20 a seat a month | Teams of two or more | The same five-hour Codex estimates as Plus; workspace agents |
| Business, Premium seat | $125 a seat | $100 a seat a month | The heaviest person on a team | "5x more usage than Standard seats, no 5-hour usage limit" |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Security review, scale, invoicing | "Custom pricing"; credit-based and token-based pricing available |
US prices in USD, read on 13 October 2026 from OpenAI's pricing page, learn.chatgpt.com/docs/pricing and three help articles. Pro tier prices come from the Pro tiers help article. Premium seat prices come only from the Business overview help article, because the pricing page shows no Premium card. Business needs at least two seats in total, Standard or Premium. The "Best for" column is the author's read. Edu and ChatGPT for Teachers are covered further down.
Read the plan cards top to bottom and notice their vocabulary: Limited, More, Expanded, Maximum. Outside Codex, OpenAI ranks the plans against each other and publishes no message count, which is why the size of each step in the price column matters so much.
Free: unlimited everyday chat, limited everything else
Free costs $0 as of October 2026 and makes one generous promise: unlimited text chats. The footnote attaches the condition, "Unlimited text chats subject to abuse guardrails", and OpenAI's models article adds that "Separate limits continue to apply to file uploads, image generation, voice, data analysis, and other tools."
Everything else on the Free card begins with the word Limited: messages with uploads, image creation, voice chats, deep research, memory and context, Codex access, and ChatGPT Work on desktop. In the compare table, the instant model's context window is 27K on Free, half the 54K that Go and Plus get.
Scheduled tasks are marked No. Ads may appear: OpenAI's ads article says "Ads may appear for users on the Free and Go plans", with testing that "started in the United States on February 9, 2026", and it states that ads do not influence ChatGPT's answers. If ads are the dealbreaker, the same article describes a free no-ads option with "additional limits (fewer messages per day and no access to tools like images)".
Go at $8: more uploads, images and voice, with ads
Go is $8 a month as of October 2026, billed monthly. The card says "Everything in Free and:" and then lists more messages with tools, more uploads, more image creation, more voice chats and longer memory. Under the list, in plain type: "This plan may include ads."
- Price, as of October 2026
- $8 a month, monthly billing only.
- Context window
- 54K on the instant model and 256K on reasoning, the same as Plus.
- Still limited
- Deep research, Codex, and ChatGPT Work in the desktop app.
- Not included
- GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6 Sol, legacy models, and Sites.
- Response times
- "Limited on bandwidth & availability", the same wording Free gets.
- Where you can buy it
- OpenAI says Go "is available in select regions", and the Go page gives no country list.
One row in the compare table changes what Go is for. Scheduled tasks go from No on Free to Yes on Go, so the cheapest paid plan already runs a prompt on a timer. A prompt that fires every Monday needs different writing from a one-off question, and our guide to writing a prompt for a recurring agent covers the difference.
Go sits $12 under Plus.
Plus at $20: the reasoning models, deep research and ChatGPT Work everywhere
Plus is $20 a month as of October 2026, billed monthly, and it is the first plan on the ladder without ads. The card adds "Advanced reasoning models with GPT-6", "Expanded deep research", "Expanded Codex usage" and "Expanded access to ChatGPT Work on desktop, web, and mobile". Then it ends on a link that reads "Limits apply".
That link leads to OpenAI's models article, which describes eligibility and stops short of counts. Plus gets the Medium and High thinking levels; the Extra High and Pro thinking levels are kept for the Pro, Business and Enterprise plans. "Plus plans include GPT-6 Astra in ChatGPT Work and Codex." The compare table adds the rest of what Go lacks, including legacy models, Sites, apps that connect to internal tools, and image generation with Thinking.
ChatGPT Work is the headline addition, on desktop, web and mobile from Plus up. Whether that makes ChatGPT an agent is a separate argument, and our explainer on whether ChatGPT is an AI agent takes it apart. Leaving is simple: the Plus plan page says "You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime through your account."
Codex and ChatGPT Work share one allowance on Plus
This is the only place I found where OpenAI prints message estimates. Its pricing docs say "ChatGPT Work and Codex share usage" and estimate how many local messages fit in a five-hour period on Plus and on a Standard Business seat, model by model.
| Model | Local messages per five-hour period (OpenAI's estimate) |
|---|---|
| GPT-6 Astra | 5 to 45 |
| GPT-6.1 Sol | 15 to 160 |
| GPT-6 Sol | 15 to 150 |
| GPT-6 Luna | 350 to 3,000 |
Estimates for Plus and Standard Business seats from learn.chatgpt.com/docs/pricing, read 13 October 2026. OpenAI's caveats: "These estimates are not fixed message limits" and "Weekly limits may also apply."
GPT-6 Astra runs from 5 to 45. Same plan, same model, a ninefold range. Plan around the low end, and treat Plus Codex the way OpenAI's own docs card describes it: "Power a few focused coding sessions each week." For what Codex changes for anyone building agents, see what OpenAI Codex means for agent builders.
Hit the ceiling and there are two ways on. OpenAI says "ChatGPT Plus and Pro users who reach their usage limit can purchase additional credits to continue working without needing to upgrade their existing plan", or you move to Pro, where "Pro plans currently have no five-hour limit." Whether Plus is right for you depends on how many of the Plus card's lines you would touch in a normal week.
Pro: three tiers at $100, $200 and $500

The Pro card says "From $100 / month" and "Your choice of 3 usage tiers". The tiers themselves live in a help article: Pro 100 at $100, Pro 200 at $200 and Pro 500 at $500 a month, as of October 2026. "Pro is billed monthly. Annual billing and payment for multiple months in advance are not available."
OpenAI separates the three tiers by exactly two things. Usage: "Pro 200 includes more usage than Pro 100. Pro 500 offers the highest included usage of the three plans." And speed: Ultrafast mode for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol is included on Pro 500 and marked "Not included" on the other two. According to the same article, buying credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 does not add Ultrafast either, at least "At launch".
That usage sentence has no ratio. OpenAI does not say how much more Pro 200 or Pro 500 includes, so nobody can work out a price per unit of Pro usage from OpenAI's pages, and a multiplier quoted for a Pro tier comes from somewhere else. The clearest published difference between Pro 200 and Pro 500 is one word in the Ultrafast column. At October 2026 prices, that is $300 a month for "Included" and an unstated amount of extra usage.
The Pro card lists the rest without splitting it by tier: "Pro reasoning powered by GPT-6 Astra", "Longer Codex and ChatGPT Work sessions", "Dot, your always-on agent" and "Maximum deep research". The compare table gives Pro a 128K instant context window and 400K for reasoning. Codex and ChatGPT Work have no five-hour limit on Pro, though OpenAI adds that "Weekly limits may also apply."
Pro 200 reopened with a smaller allowance for new subscribers
Pro 200 is open to new subscriptions again, with a condition in the article's first paragraph: "New subscriptions that aren't eligible for grandfathering include a lower usage allowance." Eligibility is narrow. You needed an active Pro 200 subscription "at any point from September 22, 2026 through 10 a.m. Pacific Time on September 29, 2026", and the previous allowance then runs "through October 29, 2026". Buy Pro 200 now and you get the lower allowance. OpenAI does not say how much lower.
The Pro card says "Unlimited subject to abuse guardrails", and the Pro plan page goes further with "unlimited messages and uploads" and "no usage caps". OpenAI's models article is more precise: "GPT-6 Pro has usage limits. A Pro subscription does not include unlimited use of the GPT-6 Pro model." Read the unlimited claims as everyday chat, and check that article before you buy Pro for GPT-6 Pro.
Business: $25 a seat, or $20 billed yearly, two seats minimum

Business is ChatGPT for a team, billed per seat. As of October 2026 a Standard seat costs $25 a month billed monthly or $20 a month billed annually, and "A Business workspace requires at least 2 Standard or Premium seats in total: 2 of either type, or 1 of each." The smallest Business bill is $50 a month, or $40 a month on annual billing. That is $480 a year.
Set that beside Plus. An annual Standard seat costs the same $20 a month as Plus. The compare table marks SAML SSO and company knowledge No on every individual plan and Yes on Business, and the Business card on chatgpt.com/pricing adds "No training on your business data by default", where the individual plans offer an opt-out. At that $20 rate, the price of those is a second seat and a year's commitment.
Business is also where workspace agents start. The compare table marks them No on Free, Go, Plus and Pro, and Yes on Business and Enterprise, so no individual plan includes them at any price.
- Team is Business. "ChatGPT Team was renamed to ChatGPT Business on August 29, 2025."
- The API is a separate bill. A Business subscription "does not include API usage", which OpenAI bills on its own.
- Nonprofits get up to 75% off Business or Enterprise, per the pricing FAQ.
- A card is enough. OpenAI takes any major credit card for Business; invoicing is something you arrange with sales on Enterprise.
A Premium seat costs five times a Standard seat
Premium has no card on the pricing page. It appears in OpenAI's Business overview article: "Premium seats cost $100 per user per month when billed annually, or $125 per user per month when billed monthly. Premium includes 5x more usage than Standard seats, no 5-hour usage limit". On the pricing page itself the word turns up once, as the Business value in the Dots row: "Business Premium".
Do the division. $125 is five times $25, and $100 is five times $20. If "5x more usage" means five times the usage, Premium costs the same per unit of work as Standard, and the lifted five-hour limit and Dots (listed as "Business Premium" in the compare table) come at no extra rate. Seats can be mixed: a two-person workspace with one of each is $150 a month, or $120 a month billed annually, which is $1,440 a year as of October 2026. Give Premium to the person who hits the Codex ceiling every afternoon.
Enterprise, Edu and the free teacher plan
Enterprise has no public price. The card says "Custom pricing" and "Contact our sales team to discuss enterprise pricing." On top of Business it lists an "Expanded context window", "SCIM, EKM, user analytics, domain verification, and role-based access controls", "Support for data residency in ten regions" and "24/7 priority support, SLAs". A footnote says credit-based and token-based pricing "are available for Enterprise plans", and Enterprise is the one plan where the pricing FAQ sends you to sales for payment options such as invoicing.
Edu has no public price either. The FAQ calls it "an affordable plan that lets universities deploy AI across their campus communities" and stops there.
The third plan in this group costs nothing. OpenAI's FAQ describes ChatGPT for Teachers as a free plan for verified US K-12 educators through June 2027. If that describes you, check it before paying for Plus out of your own pocket.
What makes the bill move
The sticker price is the floor. Four things move the number you actually pay.
- Credits after the allowance. "For eligible features, you can purchase credits to continue after using your plan's included allowance." Eligible means Codex, ChatGPT Work, and ChatGPT for Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and OpenAI warns that "Credits do not provide additional usage for every ChatGPT model or feature." Plus and Pro subscribers can buy them, and so can Business and Enterprise workspaces.
- Speed. "Fast mode uses your included allowance at 2.5 times the rate, and Ultrafast for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol uses it at 8 times the rate." Run a Pro 500 allowance entirely in Ultrafast and it covers an eighth of the work it would at standard speed. On purchased credits, Ultrafast is charged at six times the Standard credit rate.
- Seats. Every Business seat is billed, two at minimum, and one Premium seat costs as much as five Standard seats.
- The API. A separate meter with a separate bill.
OpenAI shows no price per credit on its pricing page, so I am not going to give you one. Until it prints a rate, budget for top-ups as an unknown. If usage-based billing is new to you, our guide to how AI agent pricing works covers the common patterns across AI tools.
Then the annual math, because no individual plan has annual billing. As of October 2026, a year of Go is $96, Plus $240, Pro 100 $1,200, Pro 200 $2,400 and Pro 500 $6,000. Two Standard Business seats cost $480 a year on annual billing against $600 paid monthly, a $120 saving for committing to the year. A Premium seat saves $300 a year the same way: $1,200 against $1,500.
OpenAI's pricing pages leave six things out
Here is what I looked for on 13 October 2026 and did not find on any OpenAI pricing page or help article I read:
- A message count for chat on any plan.
- A price per credit.
- How much more usage Pro 200 and Pro 500 include than Pro 100.
- An annual price for any individual plan.
- What Edu costs.
- A list of the countries that can buy Go, which the Go page says "is available in select regions" before adding "Availability may expand over time."
Message caps quoted in other guides, in the form of so many messages every few hours, did not appear on any OpenAI page I read. If a page fills one of these six gaps, ask where it came from.
Which ChatGPT plan should you pick?
Start with the steps. Each rung buys something specific, and the size of the step tells you how sure you need to be before you take it.
| Step | Extra a month | What the step adds |
|---|---|---|
| Free to Go | +$8 | More messages with tools, uploads, images and voice; scheduled tasks; ads may still appear |
| Go to Plus | +$12 | The GPT-6 reasoning models, expanded deep research and Codex, ChatGPT Work on web and mobile, no ads |
| Plus to Pro 100 | +$80 | Pro reasoning, Dots, no five-hour limit on Codex and ChatGPT Work, a 128K instant context window |
| Pro 100 to Pro 200 | +$100 | "more usage than Pro 100", amount not published |
| Pro 200 to Pro 500 | +$300 | Ultrafast, and "the highest included usage of the three plans" |
| Plus to a Business seat | +$5 billed monthly, +$0 billed yearly | Admin, SAML SSO, company knowledge, workspace agents, no training by default; two seats minimum |
Step costs are the author's subtraction of OpenAI's US list prices as of October 2026. The descriptions quote or paraphrase OpenAI's pricing page, its compare table and the Pro tiers help article.
My routing, with every price as of October 2026:
- A few questions a week: Free. Text chat is unlimited, subject to abuse guardrails, and it costs nothing.
- Daily chat on a budget, and ads do not bother you: Go at $8.
- Work that needs the reasoning models, deep research or Codex: Plus at $20, and the ads go away.
- All-day research or coding that keeps hitting the five-hour ceiling: Pro 100. Pick Pro 200 if you need more usage than that, and Pro 500 only if you need Ultrafast, because it is the one tier that has it.
- Two or more people sharing work: Business, with Standard seats for most and a Premium seat for whoever lives in Codex.
- Security review, SCIM, data residency or an invoice: Enterprise.
- A verified US K-12 teacher: ChatGPT for Teachers, free through June 2027.
If what you want from a subscription is a job done on a schedule, a Monday research digest, a morning inbox triage, a weekly report pulled from your tools, you are shopping for a different shape of product. ChatGPT lists scheduled tasks from Go upward, and a chat window is still where you start. Gravity starts from the task instead: you describe it, and an expert-built agent runs it, on a schedule if you want. It is not a chat app and does not give you ChatGPT or GPT models; here is how an agent differs from a chatbot. Gravity is in open alpha. As of October 2026, Basic is free with one agent and no card, and Pro is $5 a month during the alpha. Explore agents.

FAQ
1. How much is ChatGPT Plus?
ChatGPT Plus is $20 a month on OpenAI's US price list as of October 2026, billed monthly. It adds the reasoning models, expanded deep research, expanded Codex usage, and ChatGPT Work on desktop, web and mobile, and it carries no ads. OpenAI offers no annual Plus plan, so a year of Plus costs $240.
2. How much is ChatGPT Pro?
ChatGPT Pro has three tiers as of October 2026: Pro 100 at $100 a month, Pro 200 at $200 and Pro 500 at $500. Only Pro 500 includes Ultrafast mode, and OpenAI says Pro 200 includes more usage than Pro 100 without saying how much more. All three are billed monthly only.
3. How much is ChatGPT Business per user?
A Standard Business seat is $25 per user per month billed monthly, or $20 per user per month billed annually, as of October 2026. A workspace needs at least two seats, so the smallest bill is $50 a month, or $480 a year on annual billing. Premium seats, listed in OpenAI's Business help article, cost $125 a month or $100 a month billed annually.
4. Is there an annual ChatGPT Plus plan?
No. OpenAI's pricing FAQ says it offers monthly plans for Go, Plus and Business and annual plans for Business and Enterprise, and its Pro help article says Pro is billed monthly only. As of October 2026, annual billing is a Business and Enterprise option.
5. Is ChatGPT Pro unlimited?
Not entirely. The Pro card says unlimited subject to abuse guardrails, but OpenAI's models article says a Pro subscription does not include unlimited use of the GPT-6 Pro model, which has usage limits. As of October 2026, Codex on Pro has no five-hour limit, though OpenAI says weekly limits may also apply.
6. Is ChatGPT Team the same as ChatGPT Business?
Yes. OpenAI's Business help article says ChatGPT Team was renamed to ChatGPT Business on August 29, 2025. Guides that still quote Team pricing are describing this plan, which costs $25 a seat billed monthly or $20 a seat billed annually as of October 2026.
7. How much is ChatGPT Go, and does it have ads?
ChatGPT Go is $8 a month as of October 2026, billed monthly, and OpenAI says it is available in select regions. Ads may appear on Free and Go, according to OpenAI's ads article. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts will not have ads.
