AI email marketing is email marketing software that does part of the job for you. In 2026 that means four things. It writes subject lines and campaign copy. It builds segments from how people behave. It can pick the send time. And, newest of the four, it lets an outside AI agent such as Claude or ChatGPT work inside the account through a published connection called MCP.

Half the platforms here name one of them: Brevo and MailerLite draft copy, Klaviyo generates subject lines, Omnisend builds segments. The fourth is the newest. Five of the eight platforms below publish an MCP connection, per their own pages as of October 2026.

So the useful questions are plainer than any feature grid. What do you get for $0? What does the first paid month cost on a small list? Can the assistant you already pay for reach the account?

I read all eight pricing pages on 6 October 2026 and lined up the answers. Kit gives away 10,000 subscribers. Brevo's paid plans start at $9 a month. ActiveCampaign shows no free plan at all.

I run Gravity, an AI agent platform. It hosts no list, sends no bulk campaigns and is not ranked here. This post covers email you send to a list; your own inbox is a separate job, covered in AI email assistants for inbox triage. If email is one of a dozen jobs on your plate, the wider map is AI agents for every profession.

TL;DR

Eight AI email marketing tools, one line each

  1. Biggest free plan: Kit, up to 10,000 subscribers. That is 40 times the 250 on the free plans of Klaviyo and Omnisend (counted differently on each), and Mailchimp's free plan ends under 250 contacts.
  2. Cheapest first paid step: Brevo, from $9 a month. Every figure here is as of October 2026.
  3. Writing a newsletter: Kit, or beehiiv if you want a publication with podcasts and community attached.
  4. Running a store: Klaviyo or Omnisend. Only Omnisend shows a paid figure: a three-month total of $48, which works out to $16 a month at 500 contacts.
  5. Small business, small budget: MailerLite or Brevo.
  6. Automation-heavy B2B: ActiveCampaign, Starter $15 a month billed annually at 1,000 contacts.
  7. The default everybody knows: Mailchimp, free under 250 contacts and from $20 a month at 500.
  8. Want an AI assistant working the account? Kit, MailerLite, Brevo, Omnisend and ActiveCampaign publish an MCP connection; four of them name Claude and ChatGPT.

How I compared them

For each platform I wrote down the same five things:

  • What $0 buys. Contacts or subscribers, plus the send cap that comes with them.
  • The first paid step. The cheapest plan at the smallest list the page prices. Where the page offers only a calculator or a slider, this post quotes no number.
  • The AI the vendor names itself. Product names and phrases from its own site.
  • An agent connection. I marked a platform yes only when its own page offers MCP for Claude, ChatGPT or other AI tools.
  • Billing terms, because $15 a month billed annually is a $180 commitment on day one.

What I did not do: send a campaign, open a paid account or measure deliverability on any of them. Nothing in this post says which platform lands in more inboxes. This is published pricing and published features, read on one day, with the arithmetic written out.

The cheapest AI agent platforms list was also built from vendor pricing pages.

Quick comparison

PlatformFree tier (as of Oct 2026)First paid step publishedAgent connection (MCP) on its own pages
KitUp to 10,000 subscribersCreator, $390/yr for 1,000 subscribersYes (Kit MCP)
beehiivUp to 2,500 subscribersPriced by list sizeNot stated
MailerLite250 subscribers, 2,500 emails/moComfort from $12/moYes
Brevo300 emails/dayStarter from $9/moYes
Omnisend250 contacts, 500 emails/moStandard $16/mo at 500 contactsYes (MCP page)
Klaviyo250 profiles, 500 sends/moPriced by profile countNot confirmed
MailchimpUnder 250 contactsStandard from $20/mo at 500 contactsNot on pricing page
ActiveCampaignNo free plan shownStarter $15/mo, billed annually, 1,000 contactsYes

Free tiers and first paid steps as each vendor's own pricing page showed them on 6 October 2026, in USD. "Not stated", "not confirmed" and "not on pricing page" mean exactly that and do not prove a platform lacks a connection. ActiveCampaign's pricing page showed four paid plans and no free plan. Gravity is not in this table because it is not an email platform.

Read the free-tier column slowly, because the units differ. Kit and beehiiv count subscribers, Klaviyo counts active profiles, Mailchimp and Omnisend count contacts, and Brevo counts emails per day. A 250-contact plan and a 300-email-a-day plan are different shapes of free, so compare each against your own list and sending rhythm.

Five of the eight now publish an agent connection

For years, AI in an email tool meant a subject-line generator next to the editor. Klaviyo's free plan still lists exactly that. What has changed is that the platform also opens a door for an assistant you bring yourself.

Brevo, ActiveCampaign, Kit, MailerLite and Omnisend each publish that door on their own pages as of October 2026. Four of those five name Claude and ChatGPT outright; for Omnisend, I recorded only the MCP page's heading, "Get AI insights". The exact line from each vendor sits in its section below.

MCP is the plug. The vendor publishes it, you connect your assistant once, and the assistant can read and work on the account within whatever that vendor allows.

How far that goes is set by each vendor's own wording. Brevo's says "manage campaigns and contacts directly from ChatGPT, Claude & other AI tools". Kit's says "every AI analysis and action is personal to your business and your list". ActiveCampaign's says "Connect ActiveCampaign to any AI tool that supports MCP, including Claude and ChatGPT". Past those lines, the pages did not say what an assistant can do.

Two cautions. The other three platforms are not shown to be closed: Klaviyo's pages did not confirm a connection either way, Mailchimp's pricing page does not mention one, and beehiiv's does not state one. And an assistant that can manage campaigns may be able to send them under your name, so keep the final send with a person, at least for the first month.

Must read: email is one channel among several. For agents that also handle ads, social posts and content calendars, see the wider guide to AI marketing agents.

1. Kit: 10,000 free subscribers and an MCP connection

Kit's homepage on 6 October 2026, with the headline 'Your email list should be working harder for you' above its sign-up call to action.
Kit homepage, captured 6 October 2026.

Kit's free plan holds up to 10,000 subscribers. Nothing else on this list comes close. beehiiv, the next most generous, stops at 2,500, and Mailchimp's free plan ends under 250 contacts.

Paid plans are quoted per year, as of October 2026. Creator is $390 billed yearly for 1,000 subscribers, which the page displays as $33 a month. Pro is $790 a year for the same list, displayed as $66. Paying yearly saves 17%, per the page, and the paid plans come with a 14-day free trial with no credit card.

A list of 3,000 readers still costs nothing on Kit

Take a writer with 3,000 subscribers. On Kit that list sits comfortably inside the free plan, with room to more than triple. On beehiiv it has already outgrown the free tier. On MailerLite, Klaviyo, Omnisend and Mailchimp it passed the free limit somewhere around subscriber 250.

Kit describes its MCP connection, Kit MCP, this way: "Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and more directly to Kit so every AI analysis and action is personal to your business and your list." Of the connection lines quoted in this post, it is the only one that names Gemini too.

The catch is how the price is shown. Kit's published first paid step is a yearly charge, $390 for 1,000 subscribers. The "pay yearly, save 17%" line points to a monthly rate as well, but I did not capture its price, so budget from the yearly figure.

Best for
Newsletter writers and creators building a list from zero.
Pricing
Free up to 10,000 subscribers; Creator $390 a year for 1,000. As of October 2026.
Agent connection
Yes, Kit MCP.
Verdict
The best free plan here for anyone whose list is the business.

2. MailerLite: a $12 plan, and a $25 one for frequent senders, teams and agents

MailerLite's free plan covers up to 250 subscribers and 2,500 emails a month, with 2 user seats. The send allowance is the generous part. It is five times the 500 free sends on Klaviyo or Omnisend, which matters if you email the same small list every week.

Comfort starts at $12 a month and Power at $25, as of October 2026. The page describes Power as "Best for frequent senders, teams and AI agents". Billing yearly saves 10%.

MailerLite puts its AI in three places inside the product

The AI writing assistant drafts copy, the AI landing page builder drafts landing pages, and AI-powered A/B testing handles the split tests. On top of those, MailerLite runs an MCP server feature page, "MCP for Claude, ChatGPT, and more", which puts it in the yes column of the table.

Start on the free plan. Once you pass 250 subscribers, price Comfort first, and move to Power when you send often or work as a team, the audience the page pitches it at along with AI agents. Check whether the MCP connection needs Power before you upgrade for it.

3. Brevo: the cheapest first paid step, from $9

Brevo's homepage on 6 October 2026, headlined 'Turn Every Email into a Lifetime Customer', with its sign-up buttons below the headline.
Brevo homepage, captured 6 October 2026.

Brevo counts emails per day where most of this list counts people. Its free plan allows up to 300 emails a day once the account is approved for sending, as of October 2026. Its paid plans carry the lowest published starting price of the eight: Starter from $9 a month ($96.96 billed yearly), Standard from $18 ($194.04 yearly) and Professional from $499. Prices scale with email volume, and those are the page's published starting figures.

A daily cap behaves differently from a monthly one

Three hundred a day adds up to as many as 9,000 emails in a 30-day month, if you send every single day. It also means a newsletter to 1,000 people cannot go out on the free plan in one day: 1,000 at 300 a day is four days, 300, 300, 300, then 100. You spread it out or you pay.

Brevo's AI content generator drafts subject lines and email copy and adjusts tone. Its plan features also list "MCP for ChatGPT & Claude: manage campaigns and contacts directly from ChatGPT, Claude & other AI tools". Of the five connection lines, that is the plainest statement of what the assistant gets to touch.

Best for
A small business sending little and often, on the tightest budget.
Pricing
Free, 300 emails a day. Starter from $9 a month, rising with email volume. As of October 2026.
Agent connection
Yes, for ChatGPT, Claude and other AI tools.
Verdict
The cheapest door into a paid plan, if your sending fits a daily rhythm.

Must read: for most small businesses the newsletter is one weekly chore among many. The rest of that list, from invoices to reviews, is rounded up in the best AI agents for small business.

4. Klaviyo: built for stores, priced on a calculator

Klaviyo's homepage on 6 October 2026, showing the line 'Real relationships. Real growth. Built autonomously.' beneath the label 'The autonomous B2C CRM'.
Klaviyo homepage, captured 6 October 2026.

Klaviyo's homepage calls it "The autonomous B2C CRM", and the AI it names goes past the editor: Klaviyo AI (K:AI), Composer and a Customer Agent all appear on its site.

The free plan, as of October 2026, covers up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month, plus $5 of mobile messages and $5 of Composer usage a month. It includes an AI-powered subject line generator. Paid plans are priced by profile count on its calculator, and I captured no paid figure, so this post quotes none.

For anyone emailing more than twice a month, the 500-send ceiling arrives before the 250-profile one

Email all 250 profiles twice in a month and the 500 sends are gone. A store that sends four campaigns a month hits the cap with only 125 profiles on the list, half the profile allowance still unused. Plan around the send number.

Best for
Online stores that want email, mobile messages and customer data in one place.
Pricing
Free tier as above; paid plans on its calculator. As of October 2026.
AI named on its site
Klaviyo AI (K:AI), Composer, Customer Agent.

The pages I read did not confirm an MCP connection either way, which is why Klaviyo sits in the "not confirmed" column.

5. Omnisend: Mailchimp's 500-contact allowance, $4 cheaper

Omnisend's free plan matches Klaviyo's shape: 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, as of October 2026. Standard covers 500 contacts and 6,000 emails a month at $16 a month (it was running 30% off the first three months on 6 October). That is the same contact count and the same send allowance as Mailchimp's Standard at 500 contacts, for $4 a month less.

The $16 comes from dividing the three-month total

The page did not print a monthly price. It showed "Total of: $48.00 $33.60 today -30%" for the first three months, then monthly billing. $48 over three months is $16 a month, and that is the list price this post uses.

Omnisend describes AI that "analyzes your audience and builds segments", and it adds Forms AI and Reports AI. There is also an MCP page at omnisend.com/ai/mcp/, headed "Get AI insights", which earns it a yes in the table.

Pros

  • $16 a month for 500 contacts and 6,000 emails, as of October 2026
  • AI that analyzes your audience and builds segments
  • Its own MCP page

Cons

  • Free plan stops at 500 emails a month
  • The discount on the checkout line hides the real monthly price until you do the division

For a store whose biggest leak is the abandoned checkout, the job matters more than the tool; abandoned cart recovery with an AI agent walks through it.

Must read: Klaviyo and Omnisend cover the email side of a store. The returns, the product listings and the stock checks are covered in AI agents for Shopify store owners.

6. Mailchimp: the familiar default, from $20

Mailchimp's pricing page sums up its free plan in one line: "Under 250 contacts? It's free." Standard starts at $20 a month at 500 contacts, as of October 2026, with a 14-day free trial.

Mailchimp sets your monthly send limit as a multiple of your contacts. Standard allows 12 times the contact count, so 6,000 sends at 500 contacts. Premium includes 10,000 contacts and allows 15 times, so 150,000 sends. I did not capture a Premium price, so none is quoted here.

Intuit Assist, in beta, is the AI Mailchimp names. The page says it is "available to certain users with Premium, Standard and Legacy plans", in select countries, in English only, and "at no additional cost at this time". That is a lot of conditions for one sentence. Read it as: you might have it, and it is free for now.

Its pricing page does not mention an MCP connection.

7. ActiveCampaign: automation first, and no free plan on the page

ActiveCampaign's homepage on 6 October 2026, showing product cards next to the line 'Gives you real actions, not AI overviews'.
ActiveCampaign homepage, captured 6 October 2026.

ActiveCampaign's pricing page shows four paid plans and no free plan. At the default tier of 1,000 email contacts, billed annually, as of October 2026: Starter $15 a month, Plus $49, Pro $79 and Enterprise $145.

Annual billing changes the real first step. Starter at $15 a month, paid yearly, is $180 up front.

Starter caps every automation at five actions

Starter includes "Active Intelligence (limits apply)", 1 user and 5 actions per automation. If you are choosing ActiveCampaign for its automations, count the steps in your longest sequence before you buy. More than five, and check what the higher plans allow before you commit to Starter.

ActiveCampaign spells out its MCP line: "Connect ActiveCampaign to any AI tool that supports MCP, including Claude and ChatGPT." The homepage pitch on 6 October leaned the same way, with "Gives you real actions, not AI overviews" across its product cards.

Pros

  • MCP for any AI tool that supports it, Claude and ChatGPT named
  • Four plans with published prices at 1,000 contacts
  • Active Intelligence on Starter, with limits

Cons

  • No free plan on the pricing page
  • Starter allows 1 user and 5 actions per automation
  • Published prices are annual-billing rates
Best for
B2B teams whose email is mostly automated sequences.
Pricing
From $15 a month, billed annually at 1,000 contacts. As of October 2026.
Free plan
None shown on the pricing page.
Verdict
Worth the annual commitment only if automation is the reason you are buying.

8. beehiiv: newsletter-first, free up to 2,500 subscribers

beehiiv's homepage on 6 October 2026, headlined 'Newsletters. Podcasts. Community. One platform.'
beehiiv homepage, captured 6 October 2026.

beehiiv treats the newsletter as a publication, and its homepage headline says as much: "Newsletters. Podcasts. Community. One platform." The free plan holds up to 2,500 subscribers and is labelled "free forever", as of October 2026. Paid plans are Lite, for up to 100,000 subscribers, and Pro, for up to 250,000.

The paid price only exists on a slider

beehiiv prices Lite and Pro by subscriber count on a slider, so this post states no paid figure. Lite advertises a 0% take rate. Set the slider to your own list size on the day you buy; that number is the only one worth planning around.

beehiiv keeps its AI on a "beehiiv AI" feature page, and AI credits appear among the plan features. The pricing page does not state an MCP connection.

Best for
Writers who want the newsletter, a podcast and a community in one place.
Pricing
Free up to 2,500 subscribers. Lite and Pro priced by subscriber count on a slider. As of October 2026.
Agent connection
Not stated on its pricing page.

If hunting for links to fill each issue eats your week, see how an agent handles beehiiv newsletter curation.

All eight platforms send the email. The work around the send stays with you: drafting next week's campaign for review, writing Monday's summary of last week's results, and chasing the "who hasn't opened in 90 days" clean-up list. Gravity hosts no list and sends no bulk campaigns. Recurring jobs like those are the kind a Gravity agent does, and related jobs are broken down in building Mailchimp segments with an agent and what a Klaviyo AI agent handles. Gravity is in private alpha, free to start, no card, paid plans from $5 a month. Apply to the alpha.

Which one should you choose?

Start with who reads your email. The audience decides the shortlist faster than any feature list does. All prices below are as of October 2026.

Writing a newsletter? Go to Kit if the list is the business and you want 10,000 subscribers free. Pick beehiiv if the newsletter is a publication with a podcast and a community around it. If the writing itself is the bottleneck, turning rough notes into a newsletter covers that half.

Running a store, look at Klaviyo and Omnisend. Omnisend shows a three-month total of $48, which works out to $16 a month at 500 contacts, and has an MCP page. Klaviyo makes you use the calculator.

A small business on a budget belongs on MailerLite or Brevo. MailerLite gives you 2,500 sends a month on free and a $12 next step. Brevo gives you 300 sends a day, and the cheapest paid start at $9.

Automation-heavy B2B goes to ActiveCampaign, at $15 a month billed annually for Starter. Count your sequence steps against the five-action limit first.

If you simply want the familiar default, that is Mailchimp, from $20 a month at 500 contacts. Agencies running several client accounts will find the rest of that workload in AI agents for marketing agencies.

One tiebreaker cuts across all of these. If you plan to let Claude or ChatGPT work the account, stay with the five marked yes in the table, the ones that publish an agent connection on their own pages.

FAQ

1. What is AI email marketing?

It is email marketing software that does part of the work for you: it writes subject lines and copy, builds segments, can pick send times and, on five of the eight platforms in this post, lets an outside AI agent such as Claude or ChatGPT work in the account through an MCP connection. You still decide what goes out.

2. Which email marketing tool has the best free plan?

Kit has the best free plan by a wide margin. It holds up to 10,000 subscribers as of October 2026, against 2,500 on beehiiv and 250 on MailerLite, Klaviyo and Omnisend. MailerLite's 250-subscriber free plan does allow 2,500 emails a month, five times the 500 on Klaviyo or Omnisend.

3. What is the cheapest paid email marketing plan?

The cheapest published starting price of the eight is Brevo Starter, from $9 a month as of October 2026. Next come MailerLite Comfort from $12, ActiveCampaign Starter at $15 a month billed annually, Omnisend Standard at $16 (worked out from a $48 three-month total) and Mailchimp Standard from $20. Klaviyo and beehiiv price paid plans by list size on a calculator or slider, so they have no single starting figure.

4. Can ChatGPT or Claude run my email marketing?

They can reach the account on five of the eight platforms here, per the platforms' own pages as of October 2026. Kit, MailerLite, Brevo and ActiveCampaign name Claude and ChatGPT outright; Omnisend has an MCP page headed "Get AI insights". Whatever the assistant is allowed to do, keep the final send with a person.

5. Do AI email marketing tools write the emails for you?

They write a first draft. Brevo's AI content generator drafts subject lines and email copy and adjusts tone, MailerLite has an AI writing assistant, and Klaviyo includes an AI subject line generator even on its free plan. The edit, and the decision to send, stay with you.

6. Is Mailchimp's AI free?

It is free for some accounts, for now. Mailchimp's pricing page says Intuit Assist, in beta, is available to certain accounts on Premium, Standard and Legacy plans, in select countries and in English only, at no additional cost at this time. Mailchimp's line does not mention the free plan.

7. Which AI email marketing tool is best for an online store?

Of the eight here, Klaviyo and Omnisend are the two to compare for an online store. Klaviyo calls itself an autonomous B2C CRM and prices paid plans by profile count on its calculator. Omnisend shows a three-month total of $48, which works out to $16 a month at 500 contacts as of October 2026, and has an MCP page; Klaviyo's pages did not confirm a connection either way.
