What people type into Google about AI agents says more about this market than most analyst reports. We pulled US search volume and keyword difficulty for 20 AI agent queries through the gravity.fast research pipeline, using DataForSEO's Google Ads data for July 2026. The headline: "agentic ai" alone draws 110,000 searches a month, nearly four times the combined volume of every commercial, comparison, and pricing term in the set. People are still working out what an AI agent is; the queries that sound like purchase research barely register against the definitional flood. Every figure below sits behind a stable anchor so you can cite it directly, grouped into five themes with the reading we take from each.

What do the head terms show about AI agent search?
Definitional queries dominate the category. The four biggest terms in the set, "agentic ai" at 110,000 US monthly searches, "ai agents" and "ai agent" at 49,500 each, and "which task is a generative ai task" at 49,500, are all attempts to understand the space, and together they account for 258,500 searches a month (DataForSEO, July 2026).
- "agentic ai" draws 110,000 US searches a month at keyword difficulty 56. The buzzword now outdraws the plain category name by more than two to one. Difficulty 56 puts the top 10 out of reach for new sites; the ranking pages are high-authority glossaries and cloud-vendor explainers.
- "ai agents" and "ai agent" log 49,500 searches each, at difficulty 65 and 62. Plural and singular tie exactly because Google Ads rounds volume into buckets. These are the two hardest queries in our set, which is what a fully contested head term looks like.
- "which task is a generative ai task" pulls 49,500 searches a month at difficulty 0. An exam-style question with head-term volume and no measured competition, the clearest supply gap in the data. We wrote a direct answer to the question for exactly this reason.
- "what is an ai agent" gets 14,800 searches at difficulty 55. The full question form carries a fraction of the head term's volume but nearly all of its difficulty, since Google serves both queries broadly similar results. Our answer lives at what is an AI agent.
- "autonomous ai agents" records 6,600 searches at difficulty 21. Add one precise modifier and difficulty drops by two thirds while volume stays meaningful. Searchers using it tend to want architecture and capability detail, not a dictionary entry.
The pattern is hard to miss. This market is still in its education phase: for every search on a commercial, comparison, or pricing term, nearly ten land on a definitional one. Categories at this stage reward whoever answers the basic questions well, because that is where almost all of the demand sits.
Which AI agent queries get the most searches?
The top 15 queries span 110,000 monthly searches down to 1,600, and five of them carry keyword difficulty under 15 (DataForSEO, July 2026). Volume concentrates hard at the top: the first four rows alone account for roughly three quarters of all the demand we track across 20 queries.
| Rank | Query | US monthly searches | Difficulty (0-100) | Theme |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | agentic ai | 110,000 | 56 | Head term |
| 2 | ai agents | 49,500 | 65 | Head term |
| 3 | ai agent | 49,500 | 62 | Head term |
| 4 | which task is a generative ai task | 49,500 | 0 | Head term |
| 5 | ai powered research assistant | 18,100 | 21 | Assistant |
| 6 | what is an ai agent | 14,800 | 55 | Head term |
| 7 | personal ai assistant | 14,800 | 12 | Assistant |
| 8 | autonomous ai agents | 6,600 | 21 | Head term |
| 9 | ai agent moltbook | 6,600 | 29 | Commercial |
| 10 | openai agent builder | 5,400 | 20 | Commercial |
| 11 | n8n price | 5,400 | 1 | Pricing |
| 12 | ai personal assistant | 5,400 | 14 | Assistant |
| 13 | workflow automation tools | 4,400 | 32 | Commercial |
| 14 | ai agent platform | 2,400 | 32 | Commercial |
| 15 | ai agent examples | 1,600 | 10 | Commercial |
Five tracked queries fall below the cutoff: "ai agent marketplace" (1,000 searches, difficulty 20), "zapier vs n8n" (720, 11), "ai agent use cases" (390, 19), "ai agent vs chatbot" (260, 5), and "cheapest ai agent" (40, not measured).
Which commercial AI agent terms do people actually search?
Commercial demand is real but small. The seven commercial queries in our set total 21,790 US searches a month, about a fifth of what "agentic ai" pulls on its own, and the largest of them is an entity query about a viral product rather than a shopping term (DataForSEO, July 2026).
- "ai agent moltbook" logs 6,600 searches at difficulty 29. Moltbook, the social network where the posters are AI agents, went viral in early 2026 and pushed a branded query into the top ten of our entire set. News-driven entity spikes can outdraw every generic commercial term in a category.
- "openai agent builder" gets 5,400 searches at difficulty 20. Tool-branded queries beat category queries here too: one vendor's builder product outdraws the generic "ai agent platform" by more than two to one.
- "workflow automation tools" records 4,400 searches at difficulty 32. The older, adjacent category still frames how many buyers search. People shop in the vocabulary they already know, and in 2026 that vocabulary is workflows.
- "ai agent platform" draws 2,400 searches at difficulty 32. The term that names this category is 46 times smaller than "agentic ai". We unpack what the term means, and what to look for in one, in what is an AI agent platform.
- "ai agent examples" pulls 1,600 searches at difficulty 10. High intent, low competition: searchers here want proof the technology does real work. Our collection of AI agent examples targets exactly this query.
- "ai agent marketplace" gets 1,000 searches at difficulty 20. Small today and worth watching: marketplaces only become search terms once enough agents exist to be worth browsing.
- "ai agent use cases" records 390 searches at difficulty 19. The business-casual sibling of "examples", at a quarter of its size. The four-to-one preference for "examples" over "use cases" suggests searchers want specifics, not frameworks.
The gap between definitional and commercial volume is the most useful number in this report. Buying-intent terms run 10 to 100 times smaller than head terms: "ai agent platform" is 46 times smaller than "agentic ai", and "ai agent marketplace" is 110 times smaller. Anyone sizing this market from commercial keyword volume alone would undercount interest by an order of magnitude.
What do comparison searches reveal?
That the category is young. Our two comparison queries total just 980 monthly searches, and the bigger one compares two workflow tools rather than two agents: "zapier vs n8n" at 720 versus "ai agent vs chatbot" at 260 (DataForSEO, July 2026). People compare things they already know, and famous rivalries have not formed here yet.
- "zapier vs n8n" logs 720 searches at difficulty 11. The most-searched head-to-head in our set belongs to the previous generation of automation. It signals where agent-curious buyers are coming from: teams already automating with workflow tools.
- "ai agent vs chatbot" gets 260 searches at difficulty 5. Tiny volume, foundational question. At difficulty 5 it costs almost nothing to own, and the searcher asking it is at the exact moment of understanding the category. We take it on in AI agent vs chatbot.
How much demand hides in assistant phrasing?
More than the entire platform vocabulary. The three assistant-style queries we track combine for 38,300 US searches a month at difficulty 21 or lower, roughly 16 times the volume of "ai agent platform" (DataForSEO, July 2026). When people imagine this technology for themselves, they say assistant, not agent.
- "ai powered research assistant" draws 18,100 searches at difficulty 21. The fifth-biggest query in the whole set, larger than "what is an ai agent". Research is the job people already trust AI to do, and they search for it by outcome, not by technology.
- "personal ai assistant" pulls 14,800 searches at difficulty 12. Head-term volume at long-tail difficulty, one of the best volume-to-competition ratios in the set. Our personal AI assistant guide exists because of this number.
- "ai personal assistant" adds 5,400 searches at difficulty 14. A word-order variant that Google tracks separately. Together the two personal-assistant phrasings clear 20,000 monthly searches, both at a difficulty young sites can realistically contest.
The naming gap matters for anyone writing in this category. The audience describes the outcome it wants, an assistant that handles work, while the industry describes the architecture, an agent that acts autonomously. The search volume sits on the audience's side of that gap.
Do people search for AI agent pricing yet?
Barely, and that surprised us. "cheapest ai agent" logs 40 US searches a month, one 2,750th of "agentic ai", while the biggest pricing query in the set is tool-specific: "n8n price" at 5,400 searches and difficulty 1 (DataForSEO, July 2026). Category-level price shopping has not formed yet.
- "n8n price" gets 5,400 searches at difficulty 1. People price tools by name once they have picked one. Volume this high at difficulty this low also means almost nobody has published a clear answer, a recurring theme in this data.
- "cheapest ai agent" logs 40 searches a month; difficulty not measured. The sample is too small for DataForSEO to score. Price-first buyers exist, but at one search for every 2,750 on "agentic ai", they are far rarer than most vendor content assumes.
We read this two ways. First, price becomes a query only after a shortlist exists, so pricing content earns its keep late in the journey, not early. Second, transparency still wins the few price searches that do happen. For the record, Gravity's model is a free tier with one agent at $0, then plans from $20 per month that include $20 of usage.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most searched AI agent term in 2026?
In our tracked set, agentic ai leads at 110,000 US searches per month as of July 2026, per DataForSEO Google Ads data. The core terms ai agents and ai agent follow at 49,500 each. All three are definitional: people are asking what the category is, not comparing vendors.
Where do these AI agent search statistics come from?
Every figure comes from one source: DataForSEO Google Ads search volume and keyword difficulty data for the United States, pulled in July 2026 and compiled by the gravity.fast research pipeline. Volume is Google Ads averaged monthly searches; difficulty is DataForSEO's 0 to 100 estimate of the current top 10's strength.
Do people search for AI agent pricing?
Rarely at the category level. Cheapest ai agent logs about 40 US searches a month, while the biggest pricing query we track is tool-specific: n8n price at 5,400. People research the category first and price a named tool later, once a shortlist already exists.
Which AI agent keywords are easiest to rank for?
By difficulty score: which task is a generative ai task (49,500 searches, difficulty 0), n8n price (5,400, difficulty 1), ai agent vs chatbot (260, difficulty 5), and ai agent examples (1,600, difficulty 10). Each pairs real demand with a weak competing top 10, which is unusual in an established category.
Can I cite the numbers on this page?
Yes. Cite them as DataForSEO Google Ads search volume and keyword difficulty, US, July 2026, compiled by the gravity.fast research pipeline. Every statistic sits in a list item with a stable id anchor, so you can link straight to an individual figure rather than to the whole page.

- Methodology note: volume is Google Ads averaged monthly search volume for the US market, rounded into standard buckets, which is why exact ties such as 49,500 appear. Keyword difficulty is DataForSEO's 0 to 100 estimate of how strong the current organic top 10 is, based primarily on link profiles; "not measured" means the query's data was too thin to score.
